Unexpected
crisis, late nights and weekends are work are school
administrator duties which become part of a routine.
Filling her days with lesson plans and enriching science
experiments, Mrs. Miller doesn't miss those administrator
chores as she now teaches biology at Greenville High
School.
Spending 23
years in Commerce, 17 in the classroom, one year as a
counselor and five as an assistant principal, Mrs. Miller
brings a wealth of experience to the faculty.
"I absolutely
love Greenville. I have wonderful students and the
faculty and staff have just been great. The affect
on my life during this time of change has been nothing but
positive," said Miller.
"I want students
to enjoy science," said Miller. "Once the students
have finished my class, they will have a better
appreciation and love for science."
Miller
emphasizes that she is a very demanding teacher and her
subject should not be taken lightly. Although her
expectations are high for students, her bond with them
lasts a lifetime.
"I have a box
full of notes that students have written to me over the
years. I didn't get many of those as an
administrator. When times get tough, I get my
letters out and read a few as a reminder of why I do what
I do," she said.
Missing a few
aspects of her administrator days, Miller has settled into
not only a new school, but block scheduling, homerooms and
of course, a completely new routine for her life.
"As an
administrator I had more flexibility during the day, but
there were lots of unexpected crisss. No matter what
you have planned as an administrator, it will be
interrupted," said Miller.
"I love working
with new teachers or teachers that need assistance.
More importantly, I love working with at risk students,"
said Miller.
In the
classroom, there are still the unexpected crises, but not
to the same degree.
"The primary
time-consuming factor now is grading all those papers,"
she said.
