Friday, January 29th was a big day for Greenville High School student Marlene Archilla.

When the school's Academic Decathlon (otherwise known as AcDec) team went to Richardson Pearce to compete, Archilla received a perfect score on her interview.

She was evaluated by three judges who asked her questions such as, "What is your best quality?" and "What is your biggest treasure?"  She was not only judged on the content of her answers but also appearance, poise, confidence and speaking ability.

Marlene said, "I look for the bright side of things and I use that quality to show people that nothing is unachievable," when asked about her best quality.

As the Lieutenant Junior Grade and Training Officer in the Greenville High School branch of NJROTC, the first one in her family to graduate from high school and determination to become a famous musician later in life, Ms. Archilla definitely has that quality.

Whether you are interviewing for a job or an AcDec competition, this is preparation.  Marlene did so by having a fellow teammate ask her "random questions" and consequently she was asked, "What would you change about yourself?" during both practice and the interview.

This gold medal winner has some advice to offer to her peers:  "When interviewing, don't worry too much.  Be honest and relax."
