GREENVILLE --
Kelsea Vance and Laura Kobylecky have been named the top
two graduates of Greenville High School’s Class of 2009,
Greenville Independent School District officials have
announced.
Vance, the
daughter of Chip and Carmen Vance, has been named
valedictorian, and Kobylecky, daughter of Steve and
Rebecca Kobylecky, has been named salutatorian.
Vance and
Kobylecky will lead graduates in GHS Commencement
Ceremonies set for 8 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at T.A.
“Cotton” Ford Stadium. The high school gymnasium will also
be set up as an alternate location to be used in the event
of rain.
In her four
years at Greenville High School, Vance has been involved
in numerous academic, extracurricular and athletic
activities. She received the Superintendent Scholar Award
for three years, as well as Rotary Student of the Month
during her senior year.
Vance
participated in many student organizations, such as NHS,
Interact, EAC, Spanish Club, FLA, Native American Club and
FCA.
Vance has also
been active in many volunteer activities through L.O.V.E.,
and was a member of the Senior Prom Committee and Project
Graduation Committee. She has been a state swimming
qualifier all four years of high school, being selected to
the First Team All State Swim Team in multiple events.
Selected Most
Likely to Succeed, Best All-Around, and Outstanding Senior
her senior year, Vance has been involved in the
Independent Study Mentorship program her junior and senior
years, where she studied Optometry.
She plans to
pursue a career in Optometry by attending the University
of Arkansas, where she will also be a member of the
Razorback Swim Team.
Kobylecky was a
Superintendent Scholar for two years and has been in
National Honor Society for two years. She participated in
Native American Club and FLA and placed at various events
in the Regional and State competitions for German
Language.
For two years,
she helped in the construction of the aesthetically
astounding German Gingerbread House. At the state German
contest, Kobylecky earned Regional and State awards for
memorized German poetry and prose. Kobylecky passed her US
History and English AP tests.
She plans to
study English Liberal Arts at Texas State in San Marcos,
where she will be a part of their Honors Program.
Those planning
to attend commencement are urged to carpool wherever
possible. Organizers are expecting a large turnout and are
asking those attending to arrive early and share rides if
possible.
Parking will be
accessible from Lions Lair Road. Entrance to the student
parking lot will not be permitted from Lark Street.
