Annually, the students of the GHS media technology department undertake a service project benefiting the elementary students of GISD.  "Give a Kid a Coat" is in its twentieth year of collecting coats and providing warm outerwear to students in grades K-5.

Here is how the program works.  During the months of September and October, GHS students collect gently worn warm coats from the community.  After elementary school counselors identify the needs for their campuses, the coats are distributed to students in need.

Although Hunt County has the Clothe a Child program in December, the $50 per child doesn't go very far if a coat has to be purchased.

The Give a Kid a Coat program which began in the GHS media classroom as the brainchild of a few young men and women wanting to take on a service project has become a vital part of meeting a need for young students.

Coats are collected in all children's sizes and can be brought to the GHS front office for delivery to Mrs. Pope's room.  Be sure and place the coat in a sack and write Mrs. Pope, Room 1506 on the bag or tag.

The GHS media students do not identify the students getting the coats nor do they serve as a contact point for calls of need.  The identification process takes place on the elementary campuses.

If you have a child's coat you would like to donate please bring it to GHS and it will be delivered to the media tech classroom.
