Moving into Global Destination ImagiNation
competition, the GHS Hybrid team knew it would
be tough. With over 1,000 teams from
around the world, it was a weekend of test.
Not
to be outdone or outwitted, the local team
earned a fourth place finish in world
competition. They proved their abilities
through problem solving, showed teamwork
skills and were the creative edge the judges
were looking for in world class competition.
It
took nine months to get to the final
competition but the GHS Hybrid team finish is
a story of a team that can get the job done
and do it well.
"GHS
Hybrid Team members have much to be proud of.
Their fourth place showing at Globals was a
tremendous accomplishment among a highly
competitive field. However, I am most
proud of their hard work during the previous
nine months. Their diligence in
problem-solving, script writing, set and robot
building, and team practice allowed them to
reach their goal of going to Globals," said
Mrs. Hall, GHS team coach
This
year was a hallmark for DI as it was the
largest group of teams to ever attend the
competition. GHS was entered as the wild
card team, but left all the other Texas
finishers in their category behind as this
team finished ahead of any other state team.
With
a skit illustrating how at least one
character's life was changed by robotic
technology and with a show stopping creation,
the GHS Hybrid team has earned its place in
the winner's circle.
Monica Malone said, "Although it was a
challenge getting everything together, getting
prepared to perform, it was all worth it in
Tennessee. I had so much fun hanging out
with my team and meeting people from all
around the world. I definitely want to
go again next year."
Devon Johnson refers to this as the best year
of his life and credits his team mates with
sparking his creative side to make his place
on the team one filled with memories and
success.
Members of the team are Johnson, Hannah
Johnson, Heather Johnson, Malone, Austin
Minick, Cierra Williams and their coaches
JoAnn Hall and John Underhill.
