Members of the Lady Lions softball team overtook a healthy Highland Park lead Monday afternoon.

Overtaking a healthy Highland Park lead, the Lady Lions softball team turned a blustery Monday afternoon into their personal parade of rain in a 15-14 win at home.

While some thought the game was all but over as the Scots led 14-2 at the beginning of the seventh inning, Joanna Rico knew better.  Rico stepped up to the plate and led off a winning rally with a single to left field and then stealing second.  Rico stood on second with the opportunity to score and the runs just kept following her home as the Lady Lions finished off the Scots in Lion Pride fashion.

It was the first district win for Greenville with eight of the nine Lady Lions getting in the hit column for the team.  The stats tell the story for the team.  Amber Moore got 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run.  Marci Webb, Hayle Ellis and Samantha Sepeda also got two hits for the Lady Lions.  Webb scored three runs and drove in two runs and Ellis did her share by bringing in two runs.

Amber Leonard, Contessa Lake and Rico had a hit each.

The record for district is 1-3 for the Lady Lions and 0-4 for the Highland Park Scots.

Weather permitting the Lady Lions will have more action during Spring Break.
