Cobbie Johnson
of Greenville makes sure he’s the winner of the
100-meter dash as he ducks at the finish on Thursday in
Royse City. |
But the District
10-4A meet at the new Royse City ISD Stadium still had to
be halted on Thursday night because of lightning with only
a couple of events remaining.
Highland Park
was leading the girls team race after the completion of
the 1600-meter run. Only the girls 4x400-meter relay
remained when the meet was suspended at about 8:30 p.m.
Meet officials, coaches and athletes waited indoors for
nearly three hours while watching weather reports on the
Internet before the decision was made to resume the meet
at 11:50 p.m.
Royse City was
in a close battle with Highland Park in the boys team race
with the 1600-meter run and 4x400-meter relay yet to be
run.
Megan Frausto,
competing on her home track, led the Royse City Lady
Bulldogs on Thursday, winning three gold medals. Frausto
leaped 39 feet 1 inch to win the triple jump on her final
attempt.
The Royse City
senior, who has signed with the University of Houston,
also won the 800-meter run (2:22.74) and took the 400 with
her time of 58.15.
Cobbie Johnson
of Greenville was a double winner in the boys 100 and
200-meter dashes, clocking times of 11.19 and 22.29.
Dijoun Sheppard
of Greenville captured the boys 110-meter hurdles with a
15.16 time. Ty Johnson of Royse City was third at 15.39.
Greenville’s
4x100-meter relay held about a five-meter lead but botched
the final exchange and was disqualified.
B.J. Farrar of
Royse City anchored the Bulldogs' 4x200-meter relay team
to victory in 1:30.75 and without much rest clocked a
51.01 to capture the 400-meter dash title. Joining Farrar
on the victorious relay were Richard Morrison, Joseph Beck
and Trevor White.
Skyler Strahm of
Royse City captured the girls high jump, clearing 5-2.
Strahm was also third in the 100-meter hurdles with a
17.13.
Cameron Nelson
from Royse City won the boys triple jump at 43-1 1/4.
Greenville went two-three-four with Durant Freeman (43-0),
Dijoun Sheppard (42-6 1/2) and Cobbie Johnson (41-1 1/2).
Jessica Franklin
of Greenville jetted over the girls 100-meter hurdles to
win by a second and a half with her time of 15.42.
Franklin was also fourth in the triple jump (36-11 1/4)
and fifth in the 300 hurdles (48.58).
