Saying Goodbye Can Be So Easy When Its Realignment Time
February 4, 2010

No one is sad at all to leave Highland Park being in the new district alignment, but getting Texas High is no gift.  Both are formidable opponents in all forms of competition.

The I-30 rivalry from Rockwall and Rockwall Heath comes in another form with Sulphur Springs joining the Lions in District 13-4A play.

Monday, the UIL announced the realignment and reclassification of schools for the next two years.

Greenville is switching from District 10-4A to 13-4A and will be keeping only Royse City as an opponent from the previous district.

In addition to Greenville, Texas High, Sulphur Springs, and Royse City, the new district includes Denison, Sherman, and Mount Pleasant.

Long considered the district powerhouse, Highland Park leaving isn't giving the Lions any wiggle room as Texas High and Sulphur Springs each have recent state championships.

Greenville athletics may not be facing just this change, as the current athletic director Jim Phillips is considering an offer from Class 5A Pasadena Dobie to be their head coach and athletic director.

Another change is the number of games the team will play.  It is a seven team district and this gives the team four pre-district games before the start of district play.

The new district is contracted by sports but is the main competition district for UIL Academics also.
