Four
Greenville Lions football players signed
letters of intent with NCAA Division II
universities on Wednesday, February 3rd as
part of National Signing Day.
Going to Southern Arkansas of the Gulf South
are Alton Dennis and Dominique Mitchell while
Colton Reed and Manon Steward decided to play
for Emporia State in Kansas of the Mid-America
Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
Lions coach Jim Phillips attended the signing,
sending his second group of seniors to the
next level.
Dennis was the GHS quarterback for the past
two seasons, however he will be playing wide
receiver in college ball. Dennis was a
second-team selection on the All-District
10-4A team.
Mitchell was a second team all-district
selection for the Lions on defense.
Mitchell plays defensive back for the Lions
and is also a basketball standout.
Reed
was recruited as an offensive lineman after
being a second-team all-district on offense
for the Lions this past season.
Steward was a first-team all-district
selection for the Lions at defensive end and
recorded 65 tackles last season, including 12
for losses and four quarterback sacks.
"I'm
going to have to get used to playing at a
different level, getting used to the faster
speed of the game," said Mitchell. "Off
season is important to condition myself for
college ball."
"I
found the best opportunities for collegiate
ball at Southern Arkansas," said Mitchell.
