Annual Sports Banquet Honors Most Valuable Players

"I'm happy to be back in Greenville, working with the greatest kids in the country," said Coach Chawn Cooper.

His address at the athletic banquet on May 22 let those gathered know he was home and ready to lead the athletic program with a new staff, a new direction and with respect for the student athletes.

The annual banquet recognizes students and achievements in all GHS sports.  Earning accolades for the year were:

State qualifier Jessica Franklin, who took third in the Class 4A long jump at the state meet, earned the girls track and field most valuable player award.

Ryan Wilhelm, who signed a letter of intent with Harding University (Ark.), earned the MVP in boys soccer.

Also earning most valuable players were Dijoun Sheppard (boys track and field), Viktoria Wolf, Connor Mulkey and Skylar Pruner (tennis), Julia Hernandez (girls soccer), Devonte Green (boys basketball), Olivia Carter (girls basketball), Austin Stanphill and Olivia Ash (golf), Brad Ratliff (baseball), Sidney Tippit and Rachael Cook (softball), Morgan Bloyed (volleyball), Brittany Lee Davis (powerlifting), Alton Dennis (offensive football), and Tristian Farley (defensive football).

Other awards included:

Girls Basketball -- Shanterria Riley (Defensive Player of the Year), Maddy Crabtree (Offensive Player of the Year), Mackenzie Cooper (Lady Lion Heart Award) and Olivia Carter (Outstanding Rebounder)

Girls Soccer -- Julia Hernandez (110-percent Award), Brenda Hernandez (Team Spirit Award), Sandra Zaquez (Defensive Player of the Year), Bailey Phillips (Midfielder of the Year) and Maddy Crabtree (Newcomer of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year)

Boys Soccer -- Miguel Sanchez (Newcomer of the Year), Carlos Najera, Evan Snider and Emerson Flores (Defensive Players of the Year) and Ryan Wilhelm (Offensive Player of the Year)

Boys Basketball -- Cal Crabtree (Scholastic Award), N.J. Mason (Defensive Award) and Ladarrain Green (Mr. Hustle Award)

Baseball -- Brad Ratliff (Silver Slugger), N.J. Mason (Gold Glove), Chance Rogers (Most Improved), Hayden Stuart (Newcomer of the Year) and Douglas Skinner (Fighting Lion Award)

Softball -- Heather Hensley (Lion Pride Award), Vanessa Rico (Most Improved), Sidney Tippit (Defensive Player of the Year), Arian Alford (Rookie of the Year), Amber Moore (Catherine Hobbs Award), Rachael Cook (Offensive Player of the Year)

Volleyball -- Meghan Litchfield (Offensive Player Award), Shanterria Riley (Defensive Player Award) and Hannah Johnson and Erika Patterson (Leadership Award)

Boys Powerlifting -- Lane White (Lion Pride Award), Alford Champion (Regional Qualifier), Austin Martin (Best Overall Lifter at Regional) and Mitul Bhakta (Most Improved)

Football -- Ryan Wilhelm and N.J. Mason (Special Teams), Manon Steward (Defensive Line), Ezekial Prado (Linebacker), Dominique Mitchell (Defensive Back), Colton Reed (Offensive Line), Devonte Green (Top Receiver) and Dakieston Williams (Top Offensive Back)
